Your vote is anonymous
- We don't collect your name, email, phone number or any contact details.
- We don't save your location — it's used once to find your electorate, then discarded.
- We save only your electorate and the party you choose, linked to a random anonymous ID — not to you.
- You can change or delete your vote any time.
What we collect
| Information | Stored? Why |
|---|---|
| Electorate | Yes — to place your vote on the map. |
| Party choice | Yes — that's the poll. |
| Time you agreed | Yes — a record of your consent. |
| Random anonymous ID | Yes — so you can change or delete your vote. Stored in your browser. |
| Hashed network/device signal | Yes — one-way scrambled, used only to stop vote-stuffing. Deleted 90 days after polling day. |
| Country (from your network connection) | No — checked when you start voting to confirm you're in Australia, and never stored. |
What we never collect
- Your name, email or phone number
- Your home address or any other contact details
- Your precise or approximate location — coordinates are used once to look up your electorate and discarded
- Advertising or tracking cookies
- Analytics profiles
Address searches are sent to OpenStreetMap to find your electorate. We keep a scrambled, unreadable copy of the search for up to 24 hours to speed up repeat searches; it isn't linked to you or your vote.
Sensitive information
Your voting intention is political opinion, which is "sensitive information" under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We collect it only with your consent, which you give on the first screen of the voting flow. It is stored against a random anonymous ID, not your name or contact details, so it can't identify you.
Who sees the data
- Only aggregated totals are public.
- Districts with fewer than 20 votes show no party breakdown.
- htbj technologies does not sell or share the data.
- No political party has access.
How long we keep it
Votes are kept until 90 days after polling day (28 November 2026). After that they are reduced to district totals only and the individual records are deleted.
Service providers
- Hosting and database: Lovable Cloud.
- Address search: OpenStreetMap Nominatim — receives your search text only.
- Bot protection: Cloudflare Turnstile — checks your browser is not a bot when you start, vote, search or delete.
Your choices
- Change your vote while voting is open, or delete it any time from the "Your vote" button. Deletion after voting closes does not alter the frozen district totals.
- Clearing your browser data removes your anonymous ID from your device.
